What would you do...?

Here's a great question for you...

What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail

I remember being rendered speechless when I was asked this question. The question was ludicrous. My life to to that point had been failure after failure after failure (mostly in the eyes of others) interspersed by lucky breaks.

As a kid the very people who were supposed to be my guides and supporters (parents and teachers) were the ones telling me that I was a dunce and 'would not amount to much'.

It turns out I was (am) dyslexic but back in the 60's I was regarded a dumb, lazy, couldn't concentrate etc etc. So when as a young adult at a personal development seminar, I was asked, "What would you do if you knew you could't fail?" they might as well have asked me, 'What would you do if you could flap your arms and fly?

Happily thanks to that seminar and much more personal development I got to see that my dyslexia is actually an asset not a disability and more importantly that failure wasn't a certainty.

This question then, with the support of someone who believes in you, is a limitation loosening question. It's a playful question, it opens up lots of space for discussion and reaffirming... that you (if you are being asked it) or your client (if you are asking it) are capable of much more and that you (as the asker) want to hear their dreams, hopes and desires. And more importantly that they deserve to have a bigger, fuller life and the chance to create it.

So over to you, especially if you're struggling right now... "What would you do if you knew you could't fail?"
